A trip to the "bread basket" of France offered an amazing wealth of subject matter. Endless rolling hills carved out of wooded areas leaving trees to grow in the hollows where farming was not successful. Farmsteads of stone and stucco and heavy-beamed barns that were fenced from the fields that snuggled up to them. Grain waving as far as the eye could see; clouds of rain that descended on one area then another. Most compelling of all were the poppies that spilled into fields that had been harvested, taking no time at all to lend their color to the landscape. My painting combined these elements in an effort to celebrate the history of the place and a testimony to its beauty.
